Overview
The Tractor Operator CDE requires students to demonstrate their skills in diagnosing tractor maintenance problems, safety, and operating skills through the following events.
1) Written and Practical Exams
2) Operating a tractor with two-wheel implement attached
3) Operating a tractor with four-wheel implement attached
Eligibility:
FFA: Active senior FFA members (must be 14) who have won their respective division at the area level may participate in the state event. Students compete at the senior level, will only be eligible for senior team and/or individual recognition and awards.
4-H: Active 4-H members who are at least 14 years old may qualify for the state contest through a locally conducted event. 4-H may certify one youth per club for the state contest.
NOTE*: As agents and teachers, you must ensure that ALL competitors have safely and successfully competed at the local and/or area level before certifying them to compete at the state contest
Event Information:
The State Tractor Operator Event is held at the Virginia Beef Expo. Each FFA area is permitted three senior individuals in the state event. Areas will host their own Tractor Operator event to determine state qualifiers. For 2025, we will allow up to three members per area. State qualifiers should register for the state event by April 12th by 5:00 PM.
Date: (During the Virginia Beef Expo) - April 15th or 16th depending on the Expo schedule
Arrival/Start time for first driver: 9:00 AM. Members will arrive at scheduled times based on distance to the contest location. Lunch is not provided.
