Overview
In the Horse Evaluation CDE, students evaluate and rank horses based on breed characteristics, conformation and performance. As a team, students cooperatively solve problems related to equine selection, management, nutrition and production.

Entries are due by March 29th.
Event Date:
Saturday, April 6th, 2024 is Day 1 of competition for Senior Teams. The top 5 senior teams will advance to Day 2 at 2024 State Convention.
The Junior Contest will begin and end on April 6th.
April 6th Contest Details:
4-H & FFA Horse Judging – East Arena, Virginia Horse Center, Lexington, VA (indoor arena)

All Contestants - bring clipboards, #2 pencils, dress appropriately for the weather.
- 8:00 AM – Registration (East Arena, Virginia Horse Center)
- 8:45 AM – Contest begins
- 9:00 AM - Hippology Contestant Registration for those not doing full Horse Judging contest
- 12:00 PM – Bus contestants to Rockbridge High for lunch and reasons
- 1:30 PM – Reasons begin (Rockbridge High)
- ~4:00 PM – Officials given from Horse Judging Classes
- ~4:30 PM – Awards for 4-H/FFA Hippology and Horse Judging

Eligibility
Virginia FFA will have a senior and junior division or the Horse Evaluation CDE. If advisors in grades 7-9 wish to have their students compete at the senior level, they must register their students as a senior competitor with the understanding that those students (even if eligible by grade level for junior awards) will only be eligible for senior team and/or individual recognition and awards. Only students in grades 6-9 are eligible to compete in the junior division.
