1 January

Virginia FFA Day at the Capitol

Legislative advocacy in Richmond

  • Virginia FFA Day at the Capitol

    Share your story, advocate for agriculture, and show your support at the Virginia General Assembly. This experience is limited to those who complete the fall advocacy training.

    Location: Richmond, Virginia • Audience: Chapters & advisors

2 February

Block & Bridle Contests & FFA Week

Animal science contests and chapter celebrations during National FFA Week

  • Block & Bridle Contests

    Horse Hippology, Horse Judging, Livestock Judging, and Stockman’s contests hosted by the Virginia Tech Block & Bridle Club. Registration and billing are handled by the club.

    Location: Virginia Tech, Blacksburg • Audience: 4-H & FFA members

  • National FFA Week

    A week-long celebration each February where chapters highlight agricultural education and FFA through school activities, community outreach, and chapter-led events across Virginia.

3 March

Leadership, Judging & Cooperative Education

Multiple spring events for members and advisors

  • Spring Leadership Conference (STORM)

    A two-day leadership experience with workshops, activities, and networking for chapter officers and members at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Center.

  • State Judging

    A two-day gathering of the VAAE Officer Team, Virginia FFA Governing Board and Advisory Board, and stakeholders to plan upcoming events and judge award applications.

  • Virginia Institute on Cooperative Education (VICE)

    A conference hosted by the Virginia Cooperative Council for high school students to gain hands-on experience learning about cooperatives and their way of doing business.

    Typical location: Graves Mountain Lodge

  • State Skill-a-Thon

    Encourages members to develop a more complete knowledge of livestock and related subjects through identification, evaluation, and team activities.

    Location: Rockingham County Fairgrounds

4 April

State Cattleworking

Youth cattle working contest

  • State Cattleworking

    Teams efficiently process stocker calves using Beef Quality Assurance guidelines. Top teams from regional contests advance to the state contest held during the Virginia Beef Expo.

6 June

State Convention & Agriscience Fair

Blacksburg • Virginia Tech

  • State Convention

    The 100th Virginia FFA State Convention brings members, advisors, and guests together for sessions, contests, workshops, and recognition at Virginia Tech.

    Dates: June 8–11, 2026 (100th Convention)

  • Agriscience Fair

    Project-based competition where students present research in agricultural, food, and natural resources science aligned to national Agriscience Fair categories.

7 July

Leadership Camp

FFA Camp at Graves Mountain Lodge

  • Leadership Camp

    A leadership and service experience where FFA members from across the state come together at Graves Mountain Lodge to build skills, friendships, and memories.

9 September

Big E & State Fair of Virginia

Regional and state fair experiences

  • Big E

    Virginia FFA members travel to The Big E in West Springfield, Massachusetts to compete in Career and Leadership Development Events alongside students from across the East Coast.

  • State Fair of Virginia

    Annual fair at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County featuring contests, exhibits, and opportunities for members to showcase their skills.

10 October

National FFA Convention & Expo

Nationwide gathering of FFA members

  • National FFA Convention & Expo

    Virginia FFA members travel to National Convention to compete in CDEs/LDEs, receive American FFA Degrees, participate in leadership development experiences, and explore the career show.

11 November

Fall Contests & Goodwill Events

Soils, leadership, and FFA Gameday

  • State Soils

    The Virginia 4-H and FFA Soils Judging event where members identify soil characteristics and evaluate how they affect selected uses.

  • Virginia FFA Agricultural Leaders Conference Series

    A three-hour training series that helps members develop and deliver key messages that promote the agricultural industry. This is the required pre-requisite for Virginia FFA Day at the Capitol.

  • FFA Gameday

    A special game-day experience at Virginia Tech, featuring discounted tickets for FFA members, advisors, and supporters as part of the 100th year celebration.

    Example: November 22, 2025 — Virginia Tech vs. Miami at Lane Stadium

12 December

Speak Up, Virginia FFA!

Virtual LDE preparation workshop

  • Speak Up, Virginia FFA!

    This virtual workshop hosted by the Virginia FFA State Officers will prepare students for the Creed, Prepared, and Extemporaneous Leadership Development Events. Students and advisors are welcome!
