SAE Project(s)
My SAE project is in the area of Vegetable Production. I work for my parents on our family farm where we raise row crops and beef cattle. My SAE is focused on our vegetable operation in which we grow sweet corn, sweet potatoes, collards, and various other vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash. I assist in planting, fertilizing, growing, and harvesting of all vegetable crops. I also assist in running our vegetable stand which is located on our family farm where we sell all of our produce. Through my SAE I have learned how and when to properly plant and harvest all vegetable crops and I have learned how to determine when plants need water, fertilizer, ect. I have learned how to set prices for goods and how to provide friendly customer service. My SAE has allowed me to be more confident in myself and in public speaking through my work with customers.
Favorite CDE or LDE
My favorite CDE is Cattle Working! Even though I was raised around cattle I have learned so much through this competition. I enjoy working with animals and hands on competitions so this was the perfect one for me. Cattle working has allowed me to become comfortable working with a team while making decisions in a fast paced environment. It has also allowed me to become comfortable working under pressure as it is a timed event. My favorite LDE is Extemporaneous speaking. Competing in extemporaneous speaking has allowed me to become a more confident public speaker. It has also given me the opportunity to think on my feet and answer questions related to the agriculture industry from my own knowledge.
Favorite FFA memory
My favorite FFA memory has to be the 2022 State FFA Convention. I got to meet so many new people and amazing members and made memories that will last a lifetime!
Future Plans
After my year of service I will attend NC State University to major in Agriculture Education with a minor in Horticulture. After college I hope to have a career as a National Park Ranger and I hope to incorporate agriculture into that role. I have also considered obtaining a master's degree and becoming an agriculture teacher.
